Present Scenario of the Indigenous People of Twipra/Tripura

Being an indigenous people of Twipra/ Tripura we all know very well that the State was ruled by hundred and eighty-four kings of the indigenous Borok people since long and was merged with independent India on 15 October 1949 by the Tripura Merger Agreement. The Borok People, geographically or territorially known as Tiprasa the aboriginal ethnic group comprise of Debbarma, Reang, Jamatia, Rupini, Koloi, Uchui, Noatia, Halam, Hrangkhwal, Ranglong, Kaipeng, Molsom, Lushai, Murasing, Mog, Bongcher, Choroi, Darlong, Kochesandthe, Chiran, korbong like. Before the partition of Indian subcontinent India & Pakistan in the year 1947, 99% of populations were indigenous Twipra people. The area of Twipra is 10,491.69 Sq. Km. The Latitude and Longitude of Tripura is 2345' N & 91 30' E respectively. The vicinity of Twipra is almost surrounded by the Bangladesh for a length of 856 Km. on the North, South & West Side and on the east part is border with Assam for a length of 53 Km and Mizoram for a length of 109 Km. According to the 2001 census the total populations of Tripura recorded at 31, 99, 203 out of which 9, 93,426 persons are Scheduled Tribes constituting 31.1%of the total population. The population growth of Twipra dramatically changed because of huge and continuous migration and influx of refugees from across the border, which developed the indigenous population into minority in their motherland. This demographic change has never happened in any state of India and very rare history in the Global too. As a result there is a threat to our Mother tongue, culture, customs, economy and religions etc.

It has been observed that in this busy life every people are running for their respective destination /busy task likewise Twipra people too. But as an indigenous people of Twipra we all have extra responsibility besides our livelihood at present scenario. Its found that some indigenous people mostly those who are in Govt. service, send their children at Aguli ( Agartala) for education in various renowned Schools/ Institutions and later on some Guardian like to settle at Aguli in rented house for their Childrens education . Some of them are very hungry to purchase the Land at Agartala for permanent living. It is also seen that they have to invest excessive rate to acquire the same. Those indigenous people who have settled earlier at Agartala are very much intent to send their children to Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai etc. to attain best higher Education . Its also observed, they are very fond of construction like Taj- Mohal /big and nice Building for their living as well as for rent purpose with huge amount. Those service holders indigenous people who have once settled at Aguli they never returned back at their respective native village, even they have rare visit and as a result there is huge crisis in villages in every field.

All such busy people like, Doctors are busy for their patient, Engineers are busy for their Official work and others activities, Civil Service Officers are busy with their Official work and other also busy with their family task and other works etc.

Another issue left to highlight is that maximum tribal Students of Twipra are seems to be very much ridiculous /unsocial such as they are found at every park with couple wearing fashionable dresses, short pant etc., riding heavy Bikes with couple, roaming at fancy Shopping Molls unnecessarily, some of them are looking with addicted conditions too. There is certain limitation in every case but they seem to have crossed the danger zone.

Some parents are really hesitated to keep their children names in their own Mother tongue and dont want to posses more than two children in the family despite of having greater supportive capability. It seems most of the indigenous people have forgotten to wear their customary dresses except in particular occasions only. Another point is to be mentioned that nowadays wealthy people of Twipra are very much eager to extent their property by making Rubber Garden and its related works.

I am not against of such activities neither for staying or studying at Agartala / abroad nor for their Western fashionable style but really what I want to say is that everybody should be conscious about our destination. Can we imagine in this age of globalization what will be the position of our community in comparison to other indigenous people? Whenever you get the scope you should utilize the full implementation of your right choice.

In case of Politician of Indigenous people of Twipra, they are very much aggressive to divide the regional party in order to form separate Indigenous party like INPT, NCT, IPFT, etc. despite of strengthening the unity of Regional Party.

Recently the Political party called IPFT demanded to make separate state by considering the area of TTAADC only. But I think it will be wiser to demand above 50% majority of legislature/ services or in every case should be reserved for Indigenous People of Twipra by enacting Indian constitution, considering the most special case instead of separate state.
Another very important issue in connection with implementation of Forest Right Act.-06, in what circumstance the Gana Mukti Parishad has agreed to reform the Proposal of Forest Right Act.-06.

On the other hand various Sub Tribes of Twipra also interested to form a new Society, like Jamatia Hoda, Tripuri society, Tipra Khatoro Dofa, Rupini society, Chakma Society, Mog society, Murasing society etc.

Some of this influential people are very self-centered and much reluctant with the present condition of Indigenous people of Twipra. They dont want to spent their little bit of time for such burning national issues. If the situations run in such manners/ directions, there will be none to take the responsibility to protect such irregularities for the greater interest of indigenous fraternity. We all know Divide and Rules policy is thrown in our destiny by the enemies. It is also fact that some of the intellectual people try to over come such burning issues but which seems to be lengthy process. However, I reiterate to point that we shall overcome one day if dedicated people come forward bravely to achieve our legitimate demands.

As a well wisher of Indigenous people, the present situation arose some questions in my mind which I like to highlight here for every readers/citizen of indigenous people of Twipra:-

(1) Why the indigenous people of Twipra are not interested to keep their name in their own Mother tongue?
(2) Why most of the indigenous people of Twipra not interested to wear their traditional dresses?
(3) Why the traditional religion systems of Twipra, like Rondog khuluma, Chibrui Mutai, Goria Mutai, Wathop etc. called Hinduism? Is it not an own Tripuri religious system?
(4) Why most of the wealthy indigenous people of Twipra not interested to possess more than one or two Children? Is it indispensable especially for us?
(5) Why most of the indigenous people not adopting the traditional/ customary marriage system of Twipra?
(6) As an icon of Twipra Kingdom whether the Maharaja, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman Should go for early marriage life before entry in strong Politics in view of keeping the longevity of generation in memory of Ruler by 184 Kings.
(7) Whether the indigenous people of Twipra is shining/ progressing because of Indian Idol, Miss Sourabhee Debbarma, World Class Tennis Player, Mr. Somdev Debbarman and First Indigenous Female IAS Officers from Twipra Mrs. Tanushree Debarma?
(8) Whether the India Govt. or Tripura Govt. responsible for huge influx of foreign national in Twipra?
(9) Whether the State Government or TPSC responsible for huge vacancies in various Department of Tripura, in spite of having qualified ST unemployed?
(10) Whether the indigenous people of Twipra does not know the ideology of 'United we stand, Divided we fall'?
