Music has been a voodoo in Tripura until the recent times, the love of Rock music has been seen in Tripura due to outstation students from Shillong, Bangalore, etc who got introduced to it and then passed it on to the young generations. Now we have ample amount of Rock Bands in Tripura and they are doing pretty good and its a good thing that the young guns are more into music now which means growth in taste and trend.

The crave for Rock music has impacted so much that the young ones tend to forget the other genres of music and stay loyal to their own favorite genres. Frontman Borkunglal Hrangkhawl(B.K ) of DropSquaD a delhi based band blending hip-hop with other genres alternatively, is on his own mission to mix all genres of music and bring up a new sound in his Band. Its a pride we must say that B.K(Borkunglal hrangkhawl) and Lz (Lalzomuana Rokhum )of DropSquaD makes a statement about Tripura wherever they perform, let it be on A Students Body Freshers Meet or Nightclubs etc.

Somdev Debbarma, is a national hero now. A tennis player who recently won two gold medals in the Asian games and the first Indian to do so and we Tiprasas are full of pride and joy in his glory.

Sourabhee Debbarma the Indian Idol 4 winner shocked the country by being crowned the winner and that too hailing from a small state like Tripura.

Horjwlai, our very own Folk metal band from Tripura recently represented Tripura on the Beats Contest in Karbi Anglong and rocked the crowd there with their Joni Jong piece. Other Rock bands, namely ,Chetuwang,Twijlang,Swraijak .etc are doing good back home and are tagged as the BIG 4 of Tripura.

Our Bubagra, His Highness Maharaja Pradyot Birkam Manikya Debbarma is a rock music lover and he has been very supportive and there was a first time open air concert in Agartala which was well featured in the TNT Northeast Today, a monthly magazine. Horjwlai and Twijalang has been featured on the TNT Northeast Today (Great Eastern Rock Cds). Our Bubagra has been the inspiration for many youngsters and no wonder, he is our Icon.

Indeed its the time for Tiprasas to shine in all fields like music,sports ,education,etc. And a matter of pride for us too as we cant be neglected anymore, we have been labeled good for nothing for no reason, now I cant find a reason for WE as tiprasas to be put under that bracket.

And I guess its time for the elder generations to let the young ones follow their dreams and do what they are good at. Its good to know that many more aspiring young talents are coming up from Tripura and its the sign of development and awareness that they know what they are doing and are good at it.


DropSquaD recently signed the contract with Times Music and is one of the best bands in Delhi now. They are currently working on their new album in their home studio and I am assisting them by Producing and Recording for them.
